Graffiti #1 – a photographic essay

7 November 2020 by

in production

Graffiti has been scribbled, scratched, or painted for thousands of years. Examples have been found in as early as in ancient Egypt and Greece, and across the Roman Empire.

Melbourne, a city of some five million people, has embraced graffiti as part of a unique ‘lane’ culture – particularly within its inner-city precincts. Graffiti #1 – a photographic essay explores the spectrum of ‘street art’ – legal and illegal – from tags and stencils to elaborate murals and work on pasted paper.

Graffiti #1 captures an ephemeral art. It’s a snapshot of work by graffiti artists and taggers within the inner north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne circa 2015.
