Light one: highlights & shadows provides a visually arresting journey through the world of light – and its absence.
Light is defined as electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength of between 400 and 700 nanometres. A shadow is defined as the outcome of an object blocking the passage of light. The intersection and interplay of these phenomena can be visual magic.
The human eye, and standard cameras – in their myriad forms – record only light, shade and sometimes colour. Every picture is no more than shadows and highlights. Yet, in observant and imaginative hands, capturing just the right confluence of shadows and highlights can lift an image from the mundane to the intriguing, the powerful and even the spectacular.
